Eric emigrated to the United States from Cuba at the age of 7 and grew up in Miami, Florida. He earned his A.A. degree from the Honors College at Miami Dade College and his B.A. from Johns Hopkins University. Eric graduated law school from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, where he served as president of the Latinx Law Student Alliance and was the recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Diversity Recognition Award for his work to ensure that unaccompanied minors had access to pro-bono representation before the Baltimore Immigration Court.
For almost 10 years, Eric has focused on advocating for immigrants' rights. As a fellow immigrant, Eric understands the depths of his client’s needs and easily relates to their stories. As an immigration attorney, he focuses his practice on representing clients in removal defense in courts across the country. He has worked on thousands of cases relating to bonds, asylum, withholding of removal, and the intersection of immigration and criminal law. He has represented thousands of clients in Immigration Courts, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, Asylum Interviews, and Reasonable Fear Interviews. He has also represented hundreds of children in state court custody and guardianship proceedings throughout the state of Maryland for children seeking Special Immigrant Juvenile Status. Furthermore, he has served as an advisor for criminal defense attorneys on immigration-related matters impacting their client’s criminal cases.
Eric has litigated and won before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. In June 2023, the Fourth Circuit, in a published decision, granted his Petition for Review in A.G. v. Garland, 72 F.4th 22 (4th Cir. 2023).
Eric has also represented clients in business immigration matters, including EB-1, EB-2, and EB-3 visas, EB-5 investor visas, H-1B Specialty Occupation visas, P-1A Athlete visas, O-1 visas, L-1 visas, and E-2 Treaty Investors visas. Eric has also served as the designated immigration attorney for multiple companies, spanning the financial sector, the food and agriculture industry, and the medical field.
Eric has worked with college and high school students to help them craft their path to law school to ensure Latino representation in the legal profession. He has also worked hundreds of pro-bono hours a year to ensure that low-income immigrants have access to high-quality legal advice and representation.
Eric is licensed to practice before the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, and is a member of the State Bar of Maryland.
